Below are some sketches and photos showing the progress from rough idea to completed signboards.

After a few initial thumbnails, this was the final colour sketch I drew up for the 2 sides of the signboard. Originally, I was hoping to find some way to have the top of the heads protude above the sign, but that proved unfeasable.

Here they are in progress at the studio. The boards were just over 4 feet tall by 2 and 1/2 feet wide, and I painted them in acrylics.

And an installed view of the final boards. Not much difference from sketch to final, just a few minor tweaks here and there on the images.

Cool! so was the store's log and type put on later in vinyl which someone else did? or did you order that from a sign maker with a plotter, then you adhered the vinyl on?
No one does quiet, pensive two-tone like you can! I'll be happy to see these everytime I walk along Queen Street West.
Thanks, you two!
Leland: the logo and type were vinyl cut at the shop and then stuck on by me after I had finished painting it all. Then I varnished the hell out of the whole thing.
Really sharp work, Michael.
those are amazing!
That's very cool Mike. I remember making a special trip to Pages just to check out your paintings. I believe it was after I commissioned the "Destroy All Robots" piece and right before I met you for the first time. That's one lucky store owner.
Smashing job, Michael. I love the lighting and composition in those two pieces. Like Frannie said, very quiet and contemplative.
I love your art, man.
They better lock those things down before some lowlife walks off with a couple of Michael Cho originals.
That's incredibly beautiful! I'm constantly in awe of your ability to build volumes with just two tones and no outlines. Love it!!
Love the design style!
Outstanding piece. I bet it's pretty effective as a customer draw, too.
Thanks again, everyone, for all the nice words!
I'll probably start walking along Queen St. W. again. Great work, Mike!
Yup, I walked by these sandwich boards on Sunday and exclaimed "Hey, this is that cool bookstore and I think Michel Cho Drew these!... and there's his sig at the bottom!"
