TCAF is coming!

Its almost time for my favourite comics related show -- the Toronto Comic Arts Festival! TCAF, as its affectionately known, is a free event and takes place this weekend, August 18th and 19th. You can check out their website for all the details you need. I've always loved this show, especially since it was the first comic-con/event I ever attended as a professional. I really dig the focus of it, which is more geared toward the indie and alternative side of comics than the mainstream fare. Its an opportunity to see the sheer diversity of approaches that comics have to offer.

I'll be exhibiting again at this year's event, in a special room with the fine cartoonists and illustrators from R.A.I.D. and Transmission X where I'll be displaying and selling some new giclee prints I've had made for the occasion. I'll also be debuting a brand new sketchbook featuring a lot of the drawings, paintings and sketches I've done over the last year or so. It's almost 40 pages of black, white and grey goodness and I'll have it for sale starting this Saturday. Those of you who've visted my blog frequently will recognize some of the images in it, but there'll also be lots of previously unseen material, including pencil drawings and roughs. And since its got a bit of a super-hero theme this time around, I've posted a sample below of some of the pencil art you'll find between the covers!

Looks good! But no Mary Marvel print yet? It will be your biggest seller! ;)

I seriously considered making another trip to Toronto for this show, but it just wasn't in the budget. Maybe next time.

Have fun!

Seeing as there's no way I'll be able to make it to Canada, is there any way that I can get hold of some of that sweet swag?

Chris: Fear not, dude -- plans are afoot to put together a paypal system where I can ship out prints to people. I'm planning to get on it soon after TCAF.

Kyu: thanks, buddy -- hope you come down to the show!

Bill Nolan: Actually, I've made up a couple of MM prints -- they're just not in that photo :). Too bad you can't make it down to TCAF -- but I'm sure I'll see you at another con soon!

Jason: Like I was mentioning to Chris, I'll be setting up an online ordering system through paypal shortly, buddy. Hopefully, that'll help hook you up.

Waitasec...you are Michael FRICKIN' Cho, OF COURSE IT WENT WELL FOR YOU!

Some year TCAF will be on my list of conventions to go to. Saw the amazing guest list, and it sounds like a ton of fun.

E-mail me some time when you have some deadtime. That is 'if' you have any deadtime.

Thanks for the freebie copy of your trés-cool Sketchbook, amigo.. I enjoyed looking thru it a whole lot!!

Andy B. gave it to me, without any fuss.. Fortunately I'd say, 'cuz I didn't want you to have to cause any cruelty to his dog (Prince), as a result..

Otherwise, I woulda felt a whole lotta Guilt, every time I looked thru your book! haha

Thanks again, chum!

Anonymous: thanks very much! As I mentioned, that paypal ordering system will be set up by week's end so you can order prints and sketchbooks via the post.

doodlers: thank you! And thanks for coming out to Claudia's launch AND Tcaf -- its always a pleasure seeing you both!

cosmicpencil: hahah! Thanks, Matt! You're, like, my biggest supporter! The show did indeed go well, though I attribute that to TCAF and its organizers more than my presence. It really IS the best show in canada -- I wish it was annual instead of bi-annual. And I'll hit you up with an email today.

Rich: Glad you got your hands on a copy, buddy. It was great seeing you for that 10 seconds while I was running off to the panel. We GOTTA hang out more -- I wanna know what your'e up to these days!

Geoff: thanks for the link, buddy. Nice seeing you again too. Its always great seeing you and Joel at the shows -- you two have impeccable taste!

Hey that's awesome, Mike! I hope you had an awesome TCAF. I wish I could've been there. I would have loved to meet Pope and James Jean.
Those sketches look awesome. I'd totally by a Hulk by you. It'd be tons better than this World War Hulk crap we have going on right now.
