Richard: thanks, Richard. Nope, I have zero skill at using illustrator, so I did these old-school style -- by hand in ink. I did two separate plates, one for black and one for colour then merged the two in photoshop. The only part that's wholly 'digital' is the clouds in the first illo -- I faked the tapered brush lines using photoshop (I think I just had too much coffee that day and couldn't draw a clean tapered line without a bit of shake).
Anonymous: thanks, Gary. Yep, I did the signboard and many of the interior signs at Pages Books. You can check out a previous blog post detailing that signboard's creation at:
Jason: thanks, Jason. Yeah, this was a fun job to work on. The art director on this project made things very easy and was a pleasure to work with.
Marco: thanks, Marco!
Stovepipe.net: thanks, dude! Yeah, Nick knows EVERYBODY. He's a great guy and I love hanging out with him and his wife -- too bad they live in TX and are so damn far away. I only ever get to see them at conventions.
I'm impressed by your brush and ink technique! What's the original size of these illustrations? I like this series very much, and the couple portrait also (that wonderful coat rendering...) -rz-
Tim Baron: Thanks, Tim. Glad you didn't find these too boring!
Roberto: thanks, Roberto. I did these on 11"x14" paper for the most part. A couple were drawn and composited in pieces (due to revisions and such) and so were drawn a bit bigger. I usually don't work too big.

I love your stuff, Michael! Did you do these in Illustrator?

Very inspirational!
Rock solid, Mike.
Wow, these are great.
"corporate/business" illustrations tend to lend themselves to default lameness, but these are delightful.
