What I've been up to lately...

...is being sick and at the hospital! So for those who've dropped by this blog and have been all "WTF? Man, Cho is slow with the updates!", I apologize and have a good excuse -- complete with a note from the doctors. I've spent the last 2 to 3 weeks being sick with a bad intestinal infection that required a couple of trips to the emergency ward and a week and a half stay at the hospital. It was an illness that was so painful at times it brought to mind the title of that Sho Kasugi classic, Pray for Death.

Anyway, I've since been discharged to complete the rest of my recovery at home, and I gotta say I'm feeling a whole lot better. I haven't done a line of drawing in the last 3 weeks, but I'm hoping to get back into the studio and ease into some artwork over the next few days. So more updates on this blog will be up shortly, but for now I hope you'll understand why there weren't any replies to emails or posts in the last little while.

In the meantime however, here's an illustration I did shortly before I was incapacitated -- this one was done for the fine Canadian Business magazine. The subject of the article was about an investment instructor who taught students using anecdotes from chinese philosophy. Esoteric, I know.. but it lent itself to a fun assignment to draw!

Hokey-Smokey, Michael.. So sorry to hear about your health problems.. I had no idea.. Very GLAD to hear that you're feeling a little more hale & hearty, now!!

Yes, I had noticed that your updates were laggy. But simply assumed you were inundated with a ton of illo work..

What exactly did you eat, that did you in?!

Feel better, Mike. Month of February for me was a wash. I had sinus infections that would not go away and then a deep chest cough that pretty much sprained every connective tissue in my ribcage front to back and side-to-side. 8 week recovery time expected if I don't cough, sneeze, or clear my throat in that timeframe, plus swallow 4 ibuprofen every 8 hours to control the pain. So, man, my sympathies to you. Was it Crohn's?

S#!t, a friend of mine has Crohn's. I hope it's not that serious. That's some debilitating stuff. I'm sending good vibes, my man. All the best.

Thanks for all the well wishes, folks! I really do appreciate the thought. I'm at home resting now, on the mend, and feeling better than I have in weeks. I'm really hopeful that I'll be back to my old self in no time.

Mike: no, it wasn't Crohn's -- though I hear the symptoms are kind of similar. The technical term was an acute case of diverticulitis, though the doctors originally thought it might be appendicitis, which is why I was brought to emergency. I knew it was serious when the opening painkiller they started me on was morphine! Then they just kept upping the quality of painkillers from there, until I was on a steady dose of tylenol-3s and then percocet (a really, really loopy painkiller).

Anyway, I'm feeling a lot better now. Thanks for all the kind words, folks!
