The Sentry

Here's a few sketches from a fun comic project I'm working on that I'm pretty excited about. Its for a new mini-series featuring the Marvel Super-hero, the Sentry! I was asked to ink the cover to issue #1, which was drawn by dashing Dave Bullock, and that lead to me drawing a 10 page story for issue #2. When I got the script by the talented Paul Tobin, I almost flipped out, as it featured pretty much everything and everyone I'd ever wanted to draw in a super-hero story! I'll spare you the details, but suffice to say that I'm drawing it right now, and I'm really jazzed about working on it.

Above are a few of my warm-up sketches of the Sentry, and below is the inked cover to issue #1, penciled by Dave Bullock and inked by yours truely.

Mike,

Congratulations on this and on the X-Men job I noticed in the latest solicitations. I'm definitely picking up both.

Those are 'sketches'?! The inks on this stuff are gorgeous. That cover is channelling Kirby/Sinnott.

Bill: thanks, bill! Always nice to hear from you. Hope you and your family are having a good summer!

Alan: thanks, Alan. Glad you liked the sketches. The cover was a joy to ink since it was pencilled by Bullock -- its always fun working with him.

PS What's the X-Men gig you're working on, by the way?

I want you to know I covet those Sentry sketches you sent me about a month ago like crazy, even though you posted most of them. I colored them for fun, but nothing I'd show anybody, ha!

Fantastic news about drawing up the 10 pager, and I'm curious to know more about this X-Men gig. Congrats Mike!

Thanks for all the nice words, folks. Its all very flattering!

As for the X-men story, I'm slated to draw a short little 5-page segment for Jeff Parker's X-men First Class book. I think it's for a Halloween themed special, and there's going to be a lot of other great artists contributing to it. The best part, of course, is that I get to draw it in my two-tone style...that alone gets me all jazzed!

I stumbled across this and thought I'd pass it along to anyone out there who wants to order the book from your local comic shop: (I already did and can't wait to read it)

I am super, super excited about all of this . . . and just when I'd given up on the Sentry as ever being any good ever. And X-Men First Class, too! Wow! Exciting!

Thanks, guys! I've finished up the story this week, so it should be on the stands in October. Thanks again for all the good vibes.
