Night View

Just a quick sketch - a view of the backyard from my second floor deck at night, painted quickly in gouache.

Beautiful work. Curious, do you have to do much color correction in Photoshop to get your spot colors just right?

It's just beautiful. Exactly why I love living in the city, our backyard view like this at night. I love it.

It's a beaut...so evocative. Makes you feel like fall is here.

Very nice silhouette. This reminds me of that scene from Disturbia where Shia's character starts spying on the new girl next door...You devil you.

Tim: Thanks, Tim. For this one, since I painted it gouache, I did almost no cleanup or correction in photoshop; just a little touchup in the levels to make sure the black came out all flat. When I use markers, however, a lot of them need colour correction to flatten the tones and make it 'just right'. Luckily, my wife helps me out with most of that!

Laseraw: thanks! Glad you liked the kirby-esque pieces -- I love playing around in that way.

Dominic: thanks, Dominic.

Doodlers: thank you!

Claudia: thanks, honey. And look -- you didn't have to clean this one up for me!:)

Robert Ullman: thanks, Rob! Glad you liked it -- but boy, with the nice weather lately, it sure doesn't feel like fall! Hope you liked your copy of the sketchbook too.

Kyu: thanks, buddy. Hmm -- haven't seen that movie. But yeah, that one window in the background is what got my attention.

I loved the sketchbook, Michael...thanks a million! Dustin said he'd passed along an invite to next year's Indie Island as well...here's hoping you can make it! Your stuff would be a big hit in Charlotte, I think!
