I've been working on several more paintings of the back alleys and streets of Toronto, some of which I've shared via twitter, so I thought I'd post one here. As with many of the others in the series, this one was painted in gouache and ink, and the colour choice was meant to evoke a feeling of early fall.
And for those who are interested, yes a book is still in the works. I am furiously painting away, completing more pictures for it.

I've always really liked these alley pieces. Forgive me if you have covered it before, but did you ever go into you reason for doing them or your process? Do you take photos and work on them in the studio?
Great painting/illustration man. Love the two-tone.
It's really interesting to see that your style is still evolving. That painting still has the sense of solidity and familiarity (that the place feels as though we could be there) that typifies your work, it's got something different now. Perhaps more painterly and less like a relief print?
That someone as accomplished as you isn't letting your style become shtick is very cool.
Amazing!
Cool bg!
Like Dooney says, I really like these alley pieces as well. Always a great sense of atmosphere.
