Also, my good buddy Ramon Perez asked me to draw a guest-strip for his insanely popular webcomic, Butternut Squash, which I was more than happy to do (Ramon is a classy guy as well as being ridiculously talented). It's online right now, but you can also see the strip below. Many of the other guest-artists who know Ramon drew some hilarious strips taking their shots at him and co-creator Rob Coughler, but as it was pointed out by another friend, my strip seems more a parody of my own comics than of Ramon and Rob.

Finally, I thought it'd be interesting to post this little-seen pin-up of Ramon and Rob for the collected edition of their strips that came out a couple of years ago. And since this is my sketchblog, you can check out my pencil rough for the pinup below as well!

whoo! great post today, mike! that butternut squash strip was terrific! :D
Too funny. Love the strip.
Ha Ha
that was the first time in history that a photo strip actually worked!
Thanks, guys -- glad the strips got a laugh from you all. I'm never very confident about writing the the comedy yuk-yuks so it's nice to know they made you laugh.
Michael,
I've read ALL of Butternut Squash and that is by far the BEST strip I have read! What fun! Okay I guess Ramon did have some nice strips in there as well, but to see the typical Cho in there with that spice? BRILLIANT!
I am going to have to try some fumetti some time. It sounds like it'd be a tasty dish as well.

Thanks, Matt! Nice to hear from you. Though I can't say my strip was anywhere near the best one, even among the guest strips -- that honour, in my opinion, goes to Chip Zdarsky and his crazy crazy bit of insanity.
Hope all is going well with you and your art!
The Butternut Squash strip was brilliant, Mike! Over the years I've seen guys try to pull off that sort of self-aware, comic-in-a-comic type storytelling but never so effectively or cleverly(and not in a too cleverly way).
Great stuff!
Thanks, Brian. Coming from you that's a great compliment -- your storytelling skills are top notch. BTW, I saw that promo "jumper" comic you did recently at my local videogame store -- congratulations on that!
Jesus, Michael. That's the best comics mashup I've ever read.
Ever.
Damn you guys are havin' some fun down there in Toronto.
Brilliant. (Is that you doing both styles?)
Haha! Nice to hear from you Matthew. I hear from Karl and Brenden that you're up in Montreal now. Glad you liked the strip -- and yep, that IS me doing both styles....I'm a completist that way...
Hi Michael, I absolutely loved your parody strip. Resembles myself in front of the television everyday. Good job and you made another fan. Take care.
Take away all that Dan Clowes "homaging" and you expose what a truly mediocre artist you really are.
Of all possible posts, you pick this one to hit me with the Dan Clowes riff? hahahah!
Thanks for the comment anyway -- I'll take mediocre over "anonymous" any day :)
You draw like my mother and you smell like poo (My mother is a world-class artist and I have a poo fetish).
